2025-05-29: Heading Style
We've just added a new Heading Style setting to V3 clusters
You can now choose between Title Case and Sentence Case for headings in articles. The setting will affect auto-generated outlines when using a built-in content type, applying to all H2, H3 and H4 headings.
| Heading Style | Example |
|---|---|
| Title Case | How To Write The Best Articles in 2025 |
| Sentence Case | How to write the best articles in 2025 |
The new setting is available in the Advanced settings tab

Note: This setting does not affect titles, we will expose a separate setting for titles at a later date
2025-05-25: Machined V3 beta
Machined V3 is now available for everyone to use - it is now an opt-in open beta, so please enable it and try out the new features.
What's new?
Here's a quick breakdown of the major new features available to you now.
| Feature | What is it? |
|---|---|
| Custom Brand Voices | Create a custom brand voice - mimic your existing content, customize a built-in voice or bring your own style guide |
| Custom Briefs and Directions | Tell the agent exactly what should be in the content - brand mentions, CTAs, tables, custom data |
| In-app Content Editor | Edit your content before exporting or publishing - update content, add/remove links, edit tables and much more |
| Improved Deep Research | Run automated research up front and curate the results before writing content - more control, fewer rewrites |
| Content Types | Write listicles, reviews, comparisons, tutorials and more - you can still provide your own outline as well |
| New models | Brand new writing agent using o1 and o4-mini reasoning models |
The documentation is still in the kitchen, but you can read about the highlights below...
New Features
Enable V3
You can enable the new V3 engine in the experimental features section.

You can then select the new engine from the AI Engine dropdown when creating a new cluster.
Note: The V3 Engine is only available on new clusters
Custom Voices
Machined allows you to choose from a number of built-in voices or create your own custom brand voice - giving you the ability to create hyper personalized content.

Custom Briefs and Directions
Custom briefs allow you to give detailed directions to the writing agent.
This little box is one of the most powerful features in the new version, allowing you to give personal insights on the topic as well as the ability to fine-tune what the writing agent will do.

Some common examples:
"Mention our brand..."
"Include 5 sections in the listicle"
"Use bold to emphasize importance"
"Add an FAQ with 5 questions at the end of the article"
"Include a table in each section highlighting the steps and gotchas"
Research improvements
You can now run automated and directed research up front, allowing you to read and curate the results before writing the article - more control, fewer rewrites!

Content Editor
Machined now has a built-in editor, so you can edit the content before exporting or publishing. You can edit the text, apply formatting, add/remove links, edit tables and much more

New models
We've added support for the new reasoning models from OpenAI, we currently make use of gpt-o1 and gpt-o4-mini
The average cost per article are:
$0.10 - $0.50cents per article forgpt-o1$0.01 - $0.05cents per article forgpt-o4-mini
Note: We highly recommend you stick to
gpt-o1for now - while the cheaper model is available, we're still fine-tuning and optimizing it, you might see shorter text and lower density of links than you would expect. We will clarify when the model has been finalized, but if you do use it, please give feedback so we can improve it.
2025-04-01: Brand Voice beta
We're expanding our Brand Voice beta to more users, read more below and let us know if you're interested in trying it out...
Brand Voice closed beta
We're expanding the beta of our Brand Voice feature and inviting other users to try it out!
This feature allows you to train the AI on existing content and use more powerful models like GPT O1 and GPT 4.5 to write the content. The output quality is miles better and the cost isn't too bad either, we'll share more on that when this is ready for launch.

Anyway, if you're on a paid plan (Professional, Unlimited or Business) and have a unique brand voice you're trying to replicate, please reach out to the team :vulcan:
2025-03-24: Bulk Research, Language fixes and more
We've added bulk settings to the Research feature, we've improved German lanugage output (formal vs informal) and improved our title prompts.
All the juicy details below...
Bulk Research settings
A much requested feature allowing you to bulk apply Research settings to all articles in the cluster. This should save you a bunch of time if you usually pass the same settings to each article.
When changing Research settings for an article, there's now a handy little button that will apply all the same settings to all other unwritten articles in the cluster. Boom!

Be careful when using it, don't forget to update the settings on other articles if needed.
Language improvements :flag_de:
We've been hard at work optimizing some languages.
The latest changes are for you Germans! There are two new languages in the list, that are tailored for formal or informal content. Please try them out and let us know if the improvement is helpful.
We've added:
- German (Formal - Sie)
- German (Informal - Du)

We're planning on doing the same for French, Spanish and Italian, which might be experiencing the same issues - let the team know if the effort is worthwhile 🙏
Title improvements
We've optimized our title prompts again so the format that the built-in model uses is much more varied and human like. Let us know if it's an improvement and what other tweaks we can make...

2025-03-16: Stability AI images
Stability AI
We've introduced a Stable Diffusion 3.5 Large based image model. This model is miles better when compared to DALL-E 3, its way more predictable and creates much more realistic images (if that's your flavour).

You can even apply it as auto-generate on your clusters 🚀

While in beta, it doesn't require any api keys, which means we're funding it for the time being (gotta love our spending habits). Long term you'll need to provide your own Replicate api keys - which will allow us to bring many more image models to the platform.
Note: The Stability image model is free for all users while it is in beta - so give it a try and give us some feedback
2025-02-22: Improvements and bug fixes
The last month has been a massive focus for the team on fixing bugs and adding optimizations
- Prompt tweaks
- Fixed multiple language issues :flag_fr: :flag_es: :flag_de:
- Fixed inconsistencies between models
- Improved link placement algos
- Fair usage rate limit improvements
- Rate limits relaxed by 12%
- Platform performance improvements
- Added extra parallelism to article writer
- Better token usage prediction
2025-01-14: Reduced costs
Clusters and Titles are on us
In the beginning, Machined was a fully bring-your-own-key platform, which meant that your api keys would be used for everything including the construction of auto-pilot clusters as well as generating titles. Well that's changed now! From today, we will no longer be using your api key for these tasks, constructing clusters and generating titles will be an internal cost for the platform.
This will make the platform easier to use, and also reduce your OpenAI bill slightly...
Why we're doing this
For many new users, adding an api key as a first step can be confusing and scary. We were thinking about ways to make it easier for new users to see the power of machined without the hurdle of adding keys. While we were experimenting, we saw that this was a benefit for everyone in the same way, so in evolving the platform, we've taken the step to improve the experience and reduce costs for everyone.
As always, we're focused on value-driven decisions for our users

2024-12-26: Projects
Projects
We've added improvements in how you manage content!
Projects give you a nice way to manage your related content or campaigns.

Think of projects as folders for your content, making it easy for you to manage and organise related content and campaigns. You can create as many projects as you like, and clusters can be moved between projects very easily. If you feel like it you could even categorise your existing clusters into projects.
You can easily create projects when creating a new cluster or from the clusters view:

Projects bear no significance on the actual content, they are solely a way for you to manage and organise your clusters in the platform.
We hope it's useful, let us know what you think...
2024-12-10: Improvements and bug fixes
The last couple of weeks have been all about listening to feedback and making improvements! The team has tackled a total of 15 improvements to both usability and the quality of the output:
- 3 language tweaks :flag_de: :flag_fr: :flag_es:
- 7 UX improvements 💄
- 5 pesky bugs 🐛

2024-09-23: Model updates
Model updates
As you may have noticed we've made some model updates.
For article writing:
- We've deprecated
GPT-4andGPT-4 Turboin favour of the newGPT-4o - We're keeping
GPT-3.5 Turboin place for the time-being but have updated the underlying variant to the cheapergpt-3.5-0125
In the near future we also plan to change the models used for research, from the current gpt-3.5-0125 to the new gpt-4o-mini which will reduce the cost of research massively - stay tuned...
2024-09-10: Custom Outlines beta
Custom Outlines
We're released our Custom Outlines feature in experimental mode! Give it a shot and give us some feedback!

Custom Outlines are great when you want to control the structure and content of your articles more closely.
The Outline Editor is super easy to use, it supports markdown format and will extract the headings from any markdown you paste in (so you can throw an entire article in there and get the outline).
This feature is being released in Experimental Mode to all users, so please give it a try and report any issues to us on the in-app chat.
Check the documentation for more info
2024-08-25: UX Improvements
UX Improvements
We've been making a concerted effort to make minor experience and usability improvements on a consistent basis.
- You can enable-all for Research and Humanizer by clicking on table headers
- The full title shows when you hover on it
- We've improved column spacing

2024-08-17: Humanizer improvements
Humanizer improvements
The Humanizer has received some love and attention!
We've migrated the model used for humanizing content from gpt-4o-2024-05-13 to gpt-4o-2024-08-06. We needed to overhaul and retrain our prompts but it was worth it as it makes it 42% cheaper

Whilst in there, we also made other improvements:
- It more closely follows tone of voice
- It changes heading less often
- It uses slightly fewer tokens
2024-07-22: GPT-4o-mini
GPT-4o mini and other model changes
This new model release from OpenAI allows us to make the giant step towards high-quality articles that cost less that a cent, yes less than a cent!

You can start using this model to write your articles right now - so jump into machined and give it a go!
Please bear in mind that until we perfect the prompts for this model, we are considering it as experimental, so make sure you check the content very carefully - especially fact and link checking is a must...
2024-06-12: Humanizer beta
Humanizer
Humanize your "machined" output - what a weird world we live in.
That's right, we've just launched an experimental early version of our new humanization feature!

This new feature will make your articles sound more human to people by removing fluff, paraphrasing and replacing certain words/phrases commonly used by AI. The intention is to use more casual and realistic language and structure.
PS. This is not intended to fool AI detectors, and likely won't...
Notes
This feature is experimental so you will need to have experimental features enabled - and there are some things to be aware of before you use it.
Please read the docs for all the info
