Content types

Overview

The content type tells Machined what kind of article to create: a step-by-step tutorial is structured very differently from a product roundup or an opinion piece. Each content type has its own structure and tone.

You can further refine the output using Custom instructions.

How the content type is chosen

Single articles

Once you've entered a target keyword and title, Machined detects the most suitable content type and selects it for you. You'll see an Auto-detected badge (or Best guess when it's less certain). You can pick a different type from the Content type dropdown at any time, and click Reset to suggested to go back to Machined's suggestion.

Clusters

When a cluster is created, Machined proposes a content type for each keyword. You can change it per article in the General tab of the cluster table.

Content type is chosen per article, so it isn't part of your project's writing defaults.

Heading case

You can choose how headings are capitalized:

  • Sentence case: only the first word is capitalized (the default)
  • Title case: each major word is capitalized

Heading case is set under Advanced settings → Model & output when creating a single article, in the Custom tab of the cluster table, or for the whole project in writing defaults.
