AI Model

Machined supports multiple AI providers for content generation. You can choose your preferred provider and model when creating a cluster or article, and change it at any time.

All users have access to the same models regardless of plan or API mode.

Providers​

OpenAI​

The latest GPT models from OpenAI. A reliable choice for high-quality, well-structured content across most topics and content types.

Anthropic​

The latest Claude models from Anthropic. Known for strong reasoning and natural-sounding prose.

Google​

The latest Gemini models from Google. A good option for factual content and broad topic coverage.

OpenRouter​

Access all supported models through a single provider. Useful if you're using BYOK and want flexibility to switch between models without managing multiple API keys.

Perplexity​

Perplexity is used for research only — not content generation. When Research is enabled on an article, Machined uses Perplexity to run real-time web searches to ground your content in current, accurate information. See Research for details.

Selecting a model​

When creating a cluster or article, expand Advanced Settings and select your preferred provider and model under Model & output.

You can set a different model per cluster or article — there is no workspace-level default.

Cost​

On the platform key, article generation counts against your monthly plan limit regardless of which model you use.

On BYOK, costs vary by provider and model. Check your provider's pricing page for current rates. Note that using Research or Humanizer will increase the number of tokens used per article.
