Quickstart
Before you begin
When you sign up, you'll receive 5 free article credits to try Machined without needing an API key. After that, you'll need to add your own OpenAI API key to continue generating content. See configuring your api keys for setup instructions.
Step 1: Create a cluster
Machined organises content into clusters - a collection of related articles that cover different aspects of the same topic and link to each other.
- From your dashboard, click New Cluster
- Select Auto-pilot mode (this will automatically research keywords and build your cluster)
- Enter your topic using the hierarchical format, for example: Gardening > Vegetables > Tomatoes
- Choose your target region for keyword research
- Click Create
Machined will analyse keywords and generate a cluster of up to 5 articles. This typically takes around 1 minute.
Step 2: Configure your settings
Before writing, review and adjust the settings for your cluster:
- Article title: You can edit individual article titles if needed
- Audience: Define who you're writing for (e.g., "beginner home gardeners")
- Tone of voice: Choose from options like Professional, Friendly, or Casual
- Perspective: Select first person, second person, or third person
- Length: Choose Short, Medium, or Long articles
- Featured images: Select a source for article images (Pexels, Unsplash, DALL-E 3, or Flux Pro)
Step 3: Write your articles
- Select the articles you want to write
- Click Write
- Machined will research the topic, write the content, and add internal links between your articles
Writing time depends on article length and the number of articles, but typically takes a under a minute per article.
Step 4: Review and edit
Once written, review each article:
- Check the content for accuracy
- Review internal and external links
