Connecting to Wix
Machined.ai has a native Wix integration that publishes articles directly to your Wix blog. You connect with a Wix API key and your site ID.
Connections are set up per project. Open Project settings (the gear icon next to the project name at the top of the page), go to the Integrations tab, and click the Wix tile under Connect a CMS.

Only workspace owners and admins can add, edit or remove integrations. Other members see the connections but can't change them.
Before you start
Your Wix site needs:
- Wix Blog installed: Machined publishes to your site's blog
- At least one site member: every Wix blog post needs a site member as its author
Only Wix account owners and co-owners can create API keys.
Step 1: Create a Wix API key
- Log into Wix, open your site's dashboard and click Settings in the left-hand menu

- Scroll down to Development & integrations and click Headless settings

- Under Admin API Key, click Manage API Key. This opens the API Keys Manager, which you can also go to directly at manage.wix.com/account/api-keys

- Click Generate API Key

- Give the key a name, like "Machined", and give it access to the site you want to publish to. A key limited to just that site is enough.
- Tick Wix Blog

- Tick Manage Site Media

- Click Generate Key and copy the key. Wix only shows it once.
Step 2: Find your site ID
Open your site's dashboard in Wix. The site ID is the long code after /dashboard/ in your browser's address bar.
You don't need to pick it out yourself. You can paste the whole dashboard address into Machined and it will find the ID.
Step 3: Enter your API key and site ID
In the Connect Wix dialog, paste your key into API key and your site ID (or dashboard address) into Site ID, then click Continue.
Machined checks that it can reach your site's blog with the key, then loads your site's members.

Step 4: Choose an author
Choose a site member from Author. Wix needs a site member as the author of each post, and every article you publish through this connection is posted under their name. If your site has only one member, they're selected for you.

Click Connect. You'll see "Connected to your Wix site." and the connection then appears under Publishing destinations, named after your site's address, with a Connected status.
What Machined can access
When you connect, Machined gets access to your Wix site to create and update blog posts.
What you give Machined
An API key, with the permissions and sites you choose.
What it can do
Whatever you gave the key permission for, on the sites you gave it access to.
What Machined uses it for
- Creating, updating and finding draft posts, and publishing them
- Reading your site's members, so you can choose an author
- Reading your site's address
- Uploading images
How to limit it
Give the key access to just the one site, with only the permissions in Step 1.
Across every connection
- The connection belongs to this project only. Other projects in your workspace can't publish through it.
- Machined stores your API key encrypted, uses it only on its own servers when connecting and publishing, and never shows it in the app again.
- Machined never deletes anything in Wix. Unpublishing an article in Machined doesn't remove the post from Wix.
- Removing the connection in Machined deletes the stored API key. To cut off access straight away, also delete the key in the API Keys Manager.
Managing a connection
Each connection row has two actions:
- Move to another project: moves the connection to a different project in your workspace
- Remove connection: deletes the connection after you confirm
To change the author, API key or site, remove the connection and connect again.
Troubleshooting
If connecting or publishing fails, you'll see a message explaining what went wrong. The most common ones:
"Wix didn't accept this API key"
The key was rejected. Copy it again from the API Keys Manager, or generate a new one. If this happens when publishing ("This Wix API key is invalid or was deleted"), the key has been deleted in Wix. Create a new one, remove the connection and connect again.
"That doesn't look like a Wix site ID"
Open your site's dashboard in Wix and copy the long code after /dashboard/ in the address bar, or paste the whole address.
"We couldn't reach this site's blog"
Check that:
- The site ID is correct
- Wix Blog is installed on the site
- The API key has access to this site, with the Wix Blog and Manage Site Media permissions
"This Wix site has no members"
Every Wix blog post needs a member as its author. Add the Members Area to your site, sign up as a member, then try again.
Permission errors when publishing
If you see "Wix refused this request", the API key is missing access to the site or one of the permissions listed in Step 1. Generate a new key with the right access and permissions, remove the connection and connect again.
"Wix took too long to respond"
Wix can take up to half a minute to create each post. If you're publishing several articles at once, publish fewer at a time and try again.
"This article is too large for Wix"
Wix allows up to 400KB per post. Shorten the article or remove some tables, then try again.
"This post no longer exists in Wix"
The post was deleted in Wix (including posts moved to Wix's trash). Unpublish the article in Machined, then publish again to create a new post.
"Wix's rate limit was hit"
Wait a minute and try again, or publish fewer articles at a time.
