Custom instructions

Custom instructions let you give specific directions to Machined. This is one of the most powerful settings in Machined.ai: you can fine-tune exactly what Machined produces, or set rules every article must follow.

Where to add custom instructions​

  • Single articles: in the Custom instructions section under Advanced settings, in the Additional instructions field
  • Clusters: per article, or for every article at once, in the Custom tab of the cluster table
  • Whole project: in writing defaults, under Rules and sources → Custom instructions. These are added to every new article and cluster you create, and you can still edit them per article.

  • "Always mention our 10-year guarantee."
  • "Never compare us to named competitors."
  • "Use bold to emphasize key points."
  • "Include a table in each section highlighting the steps and gotchas."

Machined treats custom instructions as requirements and follows them in most cases. Occasionally a direction may not be applied, especially if it conflicts with the structure of the chosen content type. Always review articles before publishing.
