Custom voices

Custom voices let you teach Machined.ai your own writing style, so generated content sounds consistent and on-brand. Each project can have as many custom voices as you need. Creating a voice requires a paid plan.

Creating a custom voice​

Click Brand voice in the project sidebar. You'll see two ways to create a voice:

  • Analyze my writing: give Machined up to three pages from your site, or paste in some example text, and it drafts a voice for you to review
  • Write it myself: define a voice from scratch. This is best when you're creating a voice you don't publish in yet, such as a new audience, a second brand or a stricter compliance style.

Analyzing your writing​

  1. Click Start from my content
  2. On the From my site tab, enter up to 3 pages that represent your writing style. Click Add another page to add more. Alternatively, use the Paste text tab to paste at least 200 characters of example text.
  3. Click Draft the profile. It takes about 30 seconds.

Machined drafts a New voice profile for you to review:

  • Name: what the voice is called in Machined
  • Tone and Perspective
  • Voice summary: one or two sentences on how you sound
  • Rules: things the writer should Always or Never do
  • Sample: a passage written in this voice

  1. Edit anything that doesn't look right
  2. Click Save voice (or Start over to try again)

Managing voices​

All of a project's voices are listed on the Brand voice page, showing how many articles use each one and when it was last updated. Use the menu on each voice to:

  • Edit the voice
  • Copy to another project
  • Delete the voice

Using a voice when writing​

  • Single articles: under Advanced settings → Voice, choose Use custom brand voice, then pick your voice from Brand voice
  • Clusters: per article, or for every article at once, in the Voice tab of the cluster table
  • Whole project: choose your voice as the Brand voice in writing defaults, under Your custom brand voices. Every new article and cluster then starts with it.

A custom voice has its own tone and perspective, so these can't be changed per article. To adjust them, edit the voice.
