Publishing to Ghost

Once you've connected your Ghost site, you can publish articles directly from Machined.ai.

Publishing an article

  1. Open a written article in the editor and click Publish in the bar above the article. From a cluster, you can also open the article's menu and click Publish article.
  2. If your project has more than one destination, choose your Ghost site.
  3. Choose a publish status, then click Publish.

Publish status options

  • Publish live: published immediately and publicly visible
  • Save as draft: saved to Ghost as a draft, not publicly visible

Publishing from Machined never emails the post to your newsletter subscribers. If you want to send it as a newsletter, do that from Ghost.

Tags and authors can be managed in Ghost after publishing.

What gets sent to Ghost

  • Title and slug: Ghost may add a suffix to the slug if another post already uses it
  • Content: headings, paragraphs, lists, quotes, links, images and YouTube videos become native Ghost cards. Tables are sent as HTML cards and styled by your theme
  • Description: used as the post's excerpt and meta description
  • Featured image: set as the post's feature image, with alt text. If it's a stock photo, the photographer's credit is added as the image caption

Images are uploaded to your Ghost site. Ghost accepts JPEG, PNG, WebP and GIF images.

Publishing in bulk

Open a cluster, select the articles using the checkboxes, and click Publish (n). Choose your Ghost site and publish status. All selected articles that are ready to publish will be sent.

Updating or re-sending an article

Once published, an article shows Republish and Unpublish. Republish updates the existing Ghost post with your latest changes and keeps it live or draft, as it is in Ghost; Unpublish lets you publish it again as a new post. An article can only be published to one CMS connection at a time. See Republishing and unpublishing.

If you deleted the post in Ghost, Republish fails. Unpublish it in Machined, then publish again to create a new post.

Troubleshooting

If publishing fails, the error screen shows a message explaining what went wrong, for example an image Ghost didn't accept, or an article too large for your site. See troubleshooting for Ghost for connection problems.
