Publishing to Wix
Once you've connected your Wix site, you can publish articles directly to your Wix blog from Machined.ai.
Publishing an article
- Open a written article in the editor and click Publish in the bar above the article. From a cluster, you can also open the article's menu and click Publish article.
- If your project has more than one destination, choose your Wix site.
- Choose a publish status, then click Publish.
Wix can take up to half a minute per article, so publishing may take a little longer than with other destinations.
Publish status options
- Publish live: published to your blog immediately and publicly visible
- Save as draft: saved to your Wix blog as a draft, not publicly visible
What gets sent to Wix
- Title: the article title (up to 200 characters)
- Content: the article body, including images and YouTube videos
- Excerpt and meta description: the article's description (the excerpt is capped at 500 characters)
- Slug: the article's slug (up to 100 characters)
- Cover image: the article's featured image
- Author: the site member you chose when connecting
Images are uploaded to your site's Media Manager, in a folder called machined.
Categories and tags aren't set by Machined. You can manage them in Wix after publishing.
Publishing in bulk
Open a cluster, select the articles using the checkboxes, and click Publish (n). Choose your Wix site and publish status. All selected articles that are ready to publish will be sent.
Large batches to Wix take a while, so publish a few at a time.
Updating or re-sending an article
Once published, an article shows Republish and Unpublish. Republish updates the existing Wix post with your latest changes; Unpublish lets you publish it again as a new post. An article can only be published to one CMS connection at a time. See Republishing and unpublishing.
Republish keeps the post's current state in Wix: a live post stays live, and a draft stays a draft.
If you've deleted the post in Wix, Republish fails with "This post no longer exists in Wix". Unpublish the article in Machined, then publish again to create a new post.
Notes
Most formatting carries over to Wix, including headings, bold, italics, links, lists, quotes, tables, code blocks, images and YouTube videos. A few things are simplified:
- Tables: merged cells are laid out as separate cells, with the content in the first one
- Quotes: a heading inside a quote becomes a bold line, and a list inside a quote becomes plain lines
- Lists: nesting goes up to four levels deep
- Images: an image inside a sentence, list item or table cell isn't included. This doesn't affect images Machined adds.
Wix allows up to 400KB per post. If an article is too large, shorten it or remove some tables, then try again.
